HAAC Post Season Tournaments

Softball
The 2015 Season: It was a season of diametrically opposing halves for the Pioneers. The first several games of the season were against tough non-conference opponents, and MNU struggled to find traction. After failing to win more than 2 consecutive games for the first 2 months of the year, the Pioneers caught fire in April. Sitting at 10-22 and 0-5 in the HAAC, it appeared the season was lost. But starting with the second game of a double header at Baker on April 4, the Pioneers rattled off 12 straight wins and finished with a 14-1 run to creep back over .500 as the season came to a close. MNU is 24-23 overall and 12-6 in HAAC play to earn the 3-seed behind CMU (18-0) and Avila (13-5).

How to advance to Nationals: The conference tournament is an 8-team double elimination format, and the winner receives an automatic bid to the Opening Round of Nationals. The HAAC receives two automatic bids: the regular season champ (CMU) and the tournament champ. If CMU wins the tournament, then the regular season runner-up (Avila) gets the other bid. MNU must win the tournament to advance.

Where the tournament is played: The Blue Valley Recreation Complex in Overland Park, Kansas. 3-seed MNU faces 6-seed Graceland/Baker on Thursday at 4:00. The full schedule and bracket will be released at haacsports.com.

Baseball
The 2015 Season: The Pioneers won 30 games for the 4th time in the last 5 seasons and finished 2nd in the Western Division behind overall champ Peru State. A 9-game win streak in the early part of the season got the Pioneers off to a good start, but a 3-9 stretch as the HAAC schedule began put them in a hole. Sitting at 3-7 after 10 conference games, MNU needed a big final push to salvage the season. The final month of the season saw the Pioneers get hot again, winning 9 straight conference games spark a 12-2 finish. MNU is 30-19 overall and 16-10 in HAAC play to earn the 3-seed behind Peru State (22-4) and Missouri Valley (18-8).

How to advance to Nationals: From here on out, all the games are scheduled for 9 innings. The conference tournament is an 8-team double elimination format, and the winner receives and automatice bid to the Opening Round of Nationals. The HAAC receives two automatic bids: the regular season champ (Peru St.) and the tournament champ. If Peru State wins the tournament, then tournament runner-up gets the other bid. MNU must either win the tournament or finish runner-up to Peru State to advance.

Where the tournament is played: Wendell Redden Stadium in Joplin, Missouri. 3-seed MNU faces 6-seed Benedictine on Thursday at 4:00. The full schedule and bracket can be found here.
