Box Score 2 MNU completed the regular season with a double header sweep of Benedictine on Senior Day. In Game 1, the Pioneers scored 4 early runs, but the Ravens tied the game in the top of the fifth.
Carlos Vargas led off the bottom of the inning with a solo shot, but Benedictine tied it again in the sixth. MNU blew it open with a 4-run rally in the bottom of the sixth, and the Pioneers won 9-5.
Nick Kevlin struck out 2 in an inning and a third for the victory in relief, and
Trent Sullivan (2-3, RBI, sac), Vargas (3-4, R, HR, 2 RBI),
Seth Lieser (2-4, 2 R, 2B),
Tyler Meeks (1-1, 2 RBI), and
Colin Starr (1-2, 2B, 2 RBI, BB) led the offense.
In Game 2,
Clayton Brandt drilled the first pitch of the bottom of the first inning over the fence, and MNU led 1-0. The Ravens rallied for 3 runs in the second to take the lead, but MNU scored 1 in the second and 3 more in the third to take a 5-3 lead. Neither team scored again, and MNU completed the sweep.
Caleb Swartz struck out 4 in 6 innings for the victory,
Blake Robberson recorded a save, and Brandt (1-2, R, HR, RBI, BB),
Joe Smith (2-3, 2 R, RBI, SB), and
Ricco Moreno (2-3, 3 RBI) led the offense.
MNU ends the regular season 32-13 (22-4 HAAC). The next game is the first round of the HAAC tournament on Thursday vs. 8-seed Benedictine (10-30, 8-18) at 10:00 AM in Joplin, Mo.
