Box Score 2 The Pioneers dropped a tight Game 1, but Game 2 got ugly quickly and MNU fell twice to William Woods on Tuesday. In the first game, the Owls scored 3 times in the top of the first, but MNU answered with a
Joe Smith RBI single to cut into the deficit. In the bottom of the third, Smith's RBI double got the Pioneers within 1, and a 1st-and-3rd double steal tied the game with 2 outs. Neither team scored until the top of the seventh, when a bases loaded 2-out walk forced in the go-ahead run for the Owls. The Pioneers threatened with 2 on and 1 out in the bottom of the seventh, but a line shot double play ended the game 4-3. Smith (2-4, R, 2B, 2 RBI, SB) had 2 of MNU's 6 hits.
In Game 2, William Woods scored 5 runs on 5 hits in the second inning to take control, and rallied for 4 more in the third to blow it open. Another run in the fourth made it 10-0, but the Pioneers fought off the mercy rule with a
Clayton Brandt RBI double in the bottom of the inning. A slew of pinch hitters, including
Tino Luna and
Ethan Hargrave, batted in the bottom of the seventh, and a
Zack Atchison bases loaded RBI walk accounted for the final run as MNU fell 10-2.
Clayton Brandt (1-2, 2B, RBI, BB),
Michael Gorze (1-1, R),
Zach McCloud (1-1),
