Box Score 2 The Pioneers won a pair of low-scoring games to complete a 4-game sweep at Baker on Saturday. In Game 1, MNU scored single runs in each of the first 3 innings to take a 3-0 lead.
Santiago Romero shut down Baker through 6 innings but ran into trouble in the seventh with a 4-0 lead. With 1 out, an error, a single, and a hit batsman loaded the bases. Romero got the second out on a force at home, and
Ethan Hargrave closed it out after surviving an error to give MNU a 4-1 victory. Romero struck out 7 in the victory, and
Trent Sullivan (1-3, 2 R, 2B, BB, SB),
Jordan Eckley (1-4, R, RBI), and
Ricco Moreno (2-3, R, SB) led the offense.
In Game 2, the Pioneers scored on a wild pitch in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead, but Baker tied in the second on a sacrifice fly. Each team scored in the fifth, but MNU took the lead for good with a 2-run sixth.
Seth Lieser singled to start the inning, and
Ricco Moreno singled 1 out later.
Colin Starr's RBI double gave MNU the lead, and
Michael Gorze's pinch hit RBI single put the Pioneers up 4-2.
Nick Kevlin retired the final 6 Wildcats in a row, and MNU completed the 4-game sweep. Kevlin threw 5 innings of no-hit relief for the victory, and
Ricco Moreno (2-4, R) had 2 hits.
