Box Score
MNU dropped an 8-4 decision vs. University of St. Mary on Tuesday. The first inning was all MNU, as starter
Nick Kevlin struck out the side in the top of the first, and the Pioneers started with a
Clayton Brandt triple and a
Trent Sullivan homer to take a 2-0 lead. St. Mary got 1 back in the second, then tied the game in the third. The game turned in the Spires' favor in the top of the 5th, where they scored 4 runs without hard contact. A leadoff single and a bunt hit were followed by a wild pitch and a squeeze play, and the throw to first went down the right field line to set up St. Mary with a man on 3rd and no outs. Another soft single brought home a run, and another bunt hit led to an RBI groundout for a 6-2 lead.
A 2-out rally in the top of the sixth extended the lead, and the Pioneers offense couldn't answer. Trailing 8-3 in the ninth, MNU mounted a mini rally to bring home a run and the tying run on deck, but St. Mary escaped and took the victory.
Trent Sullivan (1-3, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, 2 BB) and Seth Leiser (1-4, RBI) drove in the runs for MNU. The Pioneers are 6-6 and will host Morningside (7-9) for a double header on Friday at 1:00.
