Pioneers Win 2 in Oklahoma

The Pioneers went to Edmond, Oklahoma and won a couple games over Jamestown and #6 York on Friday. Trent Hedlund allowed just 2 hits in the first game vs. Jamestown in a complete game victory, and his offense recorded 11 hits and 7 runs in support. Colin Starr got the scoring started with a 2-run single in the bottom of the second, and Clayton Brandt's 2-out RBI double gave MNU a 3-0 lead. Nelson Santiago picked up a 2-out RBI in the third, but Jamestown got that run back with a solo homer in the fourth and scored an unearned run in the fifth. The Pioneers put the game away in the sixth when Jordan Eckley scored on a triple and an error, and MNU rallied for 2 more to take a 7-2 lead. Hedlund closed out his 2 hitter in the seventh for the victory, and Clayton Brandt (2-3, R, 2B, RBI, HBP, SB), Trent Sullivan (1-2, 2 R, 2B, HBP, SB), Nelson Santiago (2-4, R, RBI), and Colin Starr (2-3, 2 RBI) led the offense.

The Pioneers faced #6 York in the second game, and Blake Robberson provided another complete game victory. MNU scored twice in the second, but York rallied for 2 in their half of the inning. In the top of the fifth, Brandt singled, stole second, and scored on a Carlos Vargas single. Vargas came home on a Trent Sullivan triple, and Ricco Moreno knocked in Sullivan to give MNU a 5-2 lead. Vargas doubled home Brandt in the sixth to push the lead to 4, and York managed a solo homer to close out the scoring. Robberson scattered 5 hits for his second victory, and Clayton Brandt (3-3, 2 R, RBI, SB, SF), Carlos Vargas (3-4, R, 2B, 2 RBI), Trent Sullivan (3-4, 2 R, 3B, RBI, SB), and Ricco Moreno (2-4, R, 2 RBI) had multi-hit games.

MNU is 5-4. The teams face each other again on Saturday starting with MNU vs. York at 10am.
