Pioneers Sweep Dakota State

Game 1 Box | Game 2 Box The MNU offense scored 4 runs in the bottom of the first inning of Game 1 and kept scoring all day in a double header sweep of Dakota State on Monday. The Pioneers scored 2 in the 2nd, 4 more in the 3rd, and 5 in the 5th to take a 15-6 lead and the victory.

Kevin Liddle went the distance, scattering 7 hits and 3 earned runs while striking out 7. And Derek Glenn (3-4, 3 R, 2 RBI, HBP, 3 SB), Kyle Segraves (2-5, 2 R, 2 RBI), Tim Barraza (2-3, 2 R, 3 RBI, BB, SB), Ben Alison (2-5, 2 R, SB), Alex Murrieta (2-3, R, 3 RBI, BB), and Dillon Moeller (1-3, 2 R, 2B, RBI, BB) had big games at the plate.

In Game 2, a 1-run DSU lead was short-lived as MNU batted around put up 5 in the bottom of the 1st. The Pioneers scored a single run in the 2nd and it looked like another blowout, but the Trojans answered with 6 runs in the top of the 3rd to take a 7-6 lead. Dakota State wouldn't score again, however, and the Pioneers put up 4 in the 4th and 2 more in the 5th to push the lead to 12-7.

Tim Barraza pitched 5 strong innings in relief for the victory. And Derek Glenn (1-2, 2 R, 2B, RBI, HBP, SF, SB), Kyle Segraves (3-3, 3 R, 2 2B, HR, 3 RBI, BB, SB), Josh Greer (1-1, 2 R, RBI, 2 BB, HBP, SB), Alex Murrieta (2-4, 2 R, HR, 4 RBI, SB), and Dillon Moeller (2-3, R) led the offense.

The Pioneers are 10-5. The next game is a double header at Ottawa on Tuesday at 1:00.
