The Pioneers traveled to Atchison and swept a double header from Benedictine on Saturday, completing a season sweept of the Ravens. In Game 1, lefty
Kyle Olson dominated through 6 innings as the offense built a 4-0 lead. In the top of the second,
Donnie MacLeod's 2-out RBI double brought home
AJ Nunley, who had singled, to put MNU up 1-0. Two more runs came home in the third when
Tim Purdin and
Ben Alison hit back-to-back doubles with one out, and
Jordan Goliat added an RBI single to give the Pioneers a 3-0 lead. A
Kyle Segraves double and
Tim Purdin single added the 4th run in the top of the seventh, but Benedictine made a game of it in the bottom of the inning. With one out, 3 hits and 2 errors brought home 2 runs and loaded the bases. Lefty
Tino Luna entered the game to stop the bleeding, and he got 2 outs with no further damage to give MNU the 4-2 victory.
Kyle Olson allowed just 5 hits as he pitched into the seventh for his 6th victory.
Tino Luna finished the game for his 3rd save. And
Tim Purdin (3-4, R, 2B, RBI) and
Ben Alison (2-4, R, 2B, RBI, SB) had multi-hit games.
In Game 2, the Pioneers scored 2 runs in 3 of the first 4 innings to take a 6-0 lead, and lefty
Justin Huggins made it hold up with 6 solid innings on the mound. In the first inning with 2 outs,
Tim Purdin singled and
Ben Alison walked.
Jordan Goliat followed with a double to score both runners, and MNU took a 2-0 lead. In the second inning,
Kyle Segraves and
David Hamlett recorded 2-out RBIs to give MNU a 4-0 lead. Two mores runs scored in the fourth and the Pioneers cruised to a 6-1 victory and season sweep.
Justin Huggins scattered 7 hits, allowed just one run, and struck out 7 in 6 innings. And
Kyle Segraves (2-4, R, 2B, 2 RBI),
Tim Purdin (2-4, R, 2B),
Jordan Goliat (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI), and
Jarid Renzelman (2-3, R) had 2 hits apiece.
The Pioneers are 24-10 (16-4 HAAC). The next double header is a non conference contest on Wednesday at Manhattan Christian at 4:00.
