The Pioneers defeated Missouri Valley 10-7 for their 20th victory of the season. This marks the 4th straight 20-win season for MNU. The Pioneers jumped on the Vikings early, taking a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Kyle Segraves led off with a single and promptly stole second. David Hamlett singled to score Segraves, and Tim Purdin followed with his 4th homer of the season to give MNU a 3-run lead. After the Vikings scored a run in the third, MNU answered with another big inning in the bottom of the inning. Jordan Goliat led off with a single and later scored on an AJ Nunley single. Jarid Renzelman and Donnie MacLeod followed with RBI doubles, and the Pioneers led 7-1.
The Vikings would not go away, however, and mounted a comeback with 4 runs in the fourth and 2 more in the fifth to tie the game. The Pioneers took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth with a Dave Staton sacrifice fly, and extended the lead with 2 more in the sixth. Justin Huggins (2-2) picked up the win in relief. And Kyle Segraves (1-3, R, BB, SB), David Hamlett (2-3, R, RBI, SAC), Tim Purdin (1-3, R, HR, 2 RBI, BB), AJ Nunley (2-4, R, 3 RBI, 2 SB), and Donnie MacLeod (1-3, R, 2B, RBI) led the offense.
The Pioneers are 20-10 (12-4 HAAC). The next game is a double header on Friday at home vs. Benedictine (12-17, 6-9) at 1:00.
