The Pioneers matched the all time MNU season wins record with a shutout of Central Methodist in the first round of the HAAC Conference Tournament on Friday. The win was the 30th of the season for MNU, just the second time in school history the Pioneers recorded 30 wins (2006). MNU got the scoring started in the second inning when
Jarid Renzelman led off with a single and
AJ Nunley bunted him to second. After an error and another single loaded the bases with 2 outs, and
Kyle Segraves drove home 2 with a single and
Jordan Goliat knocked in another to give MNU a 3-0 lead. Segraves increased the Pioneer lead with an opposite field homer with 2 outs in the fourth, and
Ben Alison's double brought home
Tim Purdin for the 5th run in the seventh.
Matt Netherton (6-3) scattered 7 hits and struck out 5 in 7+ innings of work for the 5-0 victory, and
Kyle Segraves (2-4, R, HR, 3 RBI, HBP),
Jordan Goliat (2-3, 2B, RBI, BB, HBP),
Tim Purdin (2-5, R),
Ben Alison (2-5, 2B, RBI, SB), and
Jarid Renzelman (2-5, R) had 2 hits apiece.
