MNU Sweeps Graceland for Coach Thompson's 100th Win

The Pioneers completed a series sweep of Graceland by winning both games on Saturday. In Game 1, Tino Luna's dominant performance set the tone for the day. Luna struck out the side in the first two innings and wound up striking out 8 of the first 9 batters he faced, including 7 in a row. The Pioneers got on the board in the bottom of the fourth when Ben Alison's 2-RBI double brought home David Hamlett and Tim Purdin. Jordan Goliat knocked in Alison with a sacrifice fly, and an error brought home another run to give MNU a 4-0 lead. The Pioneers put up 2 runs in each of the next two innings and won 8-1. Luna (5-1) struck out 10 in 5 innings and allowed a single run. Justin Huggins struck out 3 in 2 innings of relief, and Kyle Segraves (2-4, 2 R, 2B, RBI), Tim Purdin (3-4, R, 2 2B, RBI), and Ben Alison (3-4, R, 2B, 3 RBI) had multi-hit games.

The Game 1 victory marked the 100th career win for Head Coach Ryan Thompson, who arrived at MNU in the Spring of 2007.

In Game 2, MNU scored in each inning and won 12-2 in 5 innings via the 10-run rule. Kyle Olson (5-2) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) and striking out 3 in 4 innings.
