AJ Nunley led off with a single and moved to second on a
Jordan Goliat single. One out later, back-to-back walks from Dave Staton and
Kyle Segraves brought home a run.
David Hamlett followed with a single to tie the game and put runners on 1st and 3rd. A fielder's choice and an error brought home 2 more runs, and MNU closed out the bottom of the 7th for the victory.
Tino Luna struck out 6 in 6 innings for his 3rd win of the season.
Justin Huggins pitched a scoreless seventh to pick up the save. And
David Hamlett (2-4, 2B, 2 RBI),
AJ Nunley (2-3, R), and
Jordan Goliat (3-3, R, RBI) led the offense.
In Game 2, the Pioneers again found themselves trailing in the 7th. Down 2-0, MNU started another rally when
Donnie MacLeod led off with a walk. Dave Staton singled him to second and
Kyle Segraves doubled to bring home a run and put runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs. After an intentional walk loaded the bases, a fielder's choice cut down the potential tying run at home.
Tim Purdin followed with a sacrifice fly, but the Pioneers could do no further damage and the game headed to the bottom of the seventh. Back-to-back walks and a sacrifice bunt set up CMU with 2 runners in scoring position with 1 out, and an intentional walk was followed by a walk-off single to end the game and complete the split.
Kyle Segraves (3-4, R, 2 2B, RBI) and Dave Staton (2-2, BB) had multi-hit games in Game 2.
MNU is 11-7 (4-2 HAAC). The next game is a double header at home vs. Missouri Valley on Saturday at 11:00 AM.
