MNU Swept @ #7 Oklahoma City

The Pioneers used a 7th-inning rally to take the lead in Game 1 at #7 Oklahoma City, but left the Sooner State empty handed as the Stars rallied to win both games on Saturday.

In Game 1, the Pioneers got on the board in the first when Jarid Renzelman walked with 2 outs. Tim Purdin chased him home with a double and MNU took a 1-0 lead. The Stars answered with a 2-run homer in the bottom of the inning and held the lead until the top of the 4th. David Hamlett's 2-out RBI double tied the game until the Star rallied for 2 in the 5th. An insurance run seemed to seal the game when the Stars plated a run in the 6th to take a 3-run lead, but the Pioneers were not done.

With a runner on and 2 outs, the Pioneers began their comeback. A double, single, and walk brought home a run and put the tying run in scoring position for Dave Staton. The senior catcher doubled down the left field line to tie the game, and back-to-back walks gave MNU a 1-run lead.

Unfortunately the lead was not held as Oklahoma City followed a single with a walk-off homer in the bottom of the inning, dropping the Pioneers to 0-2 on the young season.

Kyle Segraves (1-3, BB, SB), Ben Alison (1-3, R, 2B, RBI), Jarid Renzelman (1-2, R, RBI, BB, HBP) Tim Purdin (1-1, R, 2B, RBI, 3 BB), and David Hamlett (1-3, 2 RBI, BB) led the offense.

In Game 2, Oklahoma City didn't wait until the final inning to defeat the Pioneers. With 1 run in the 1st, 3 more in the 2nd, and 7 in the 3rd, the Stars were quickly on their way to a 5-inning 13-2 victory via the 10-run rule.

Dave Staton (2-2, 2 RBI) and Kevin Liddle (2-2, R, SB) had 2 hits apiece.

The Pioneers are 0-3. The next game is a double header on Tuesday the 22nd at Ottawa University at 1:00.
