Pioneer athletics were in good spirits Wednesday night as all 4 teams in competition came away with victories. The Men's Soccer team defeated Missouri Valley in the HAAC Conference Tournament Semifinal (story here). Volleyball defeated Evangel in the HAAC Conference Tournament Semifinal. And Men's & Women's Basketball swept Ottawa on the road.

MNU Volleyball advance to its second consecutive Conference Tourney Final with a 3-0 sweep of Evangel. MNU started each set with a little run to build a cushion and remained in control throughout the match. The scores were 25-19, 25-23, and 25-16. In the second set, Evangel fought off a few set points before MNU finally found the final point to take a 2-0 lead. The Pioneers then controlled Set 3 and completed the sweep.

Megan Hayes recorded 10 kills and 4 blocks. Linjun Ji had 6 kills and 13 digs. And Becca Powers (19) and Kimmie Kreeger (16) split the assists.

The Pioneers are 27-7 (8-1 HAAC). They will try to avenge their only conference loss on Saturday at Baker (26-10, 9-0) at 7:00 PM for the HAAC Conferency Tourney Title.

The Women's Basketball team evened its record with a 68-62 victory at Ottawa on Wednesday. Neither team achieved a double-digit lead in the tight contest, and MNU came away with a hard-fought victory. The key stretch in the game came with the Pioneers leading by 1 after an Ottawa 3-pointer with just under 3 minutes remaining. Daria Spew scored, Ottawa turned the ball over, and Rachel Boan scored again to push the Pioneer lead to 5. In the final minute, MNU made just enough free throws to seal the victory and even their record.

Daria Sprew led the offense with 16 points and 4 steals. Rachel Boan had 13 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists. And CJ Wesemann came off the bench to contribute 8 points and 2 assists.

The Pioneers are 2-2. The next game is Friday at home vs. Kansas Wesleyan (2-1) at 6:00 PM for the Tip-Off Classic.

Conner Langrehr's career night helped the Men's Basketball team improve to 2-1 with a 92-85 comeback voctory at Ottawa on Wednesday. The defending HAAC Freshman of the Year came off the bench to score 33 points. The Pioneers trailed most of the first half and went to the locker room trailing by 8. The second half saw Ottawa increase their lead to 12 points with 12 minutes remaining, but the MNU defense locked it down for a few minutes and allowed a 14-3 Pioneer run to take the lead. The lead exchanged hands for the next 5 minutes, but the Pioneers made more plays at the end and came away with a 7-point victory.

Langrehr had a career-high 33 points on 13-20 shooting. He also pulled down 6 rebounds and recorded 2 steals. Rustin Dowd had 17 points and 5 assists. Lukas Weigel came off the bench to score 17 points and record 4 blocks. And Jacob French had 6 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 steals.

The Pioneers are 2-1. The next game is Friday at home vs. Central Bible at 8:00 PM for the Tip-Off Classic.
