The Pioneers are one victory from their first trip to the conference tournament, but weather has delayed their final 3 contests until this weekend. Baker and MNU will play a single game at Robbie Jones Field on Friday at 4:00, and a double header at Baker on Saturday at 1:00. The conference is broken up into 2 divisions, and the top 3 teams from each division qualify for the post season. HAAC West consists of Avila, Baker, Benedictine, Graceland, MNU, and William Jewell. Avila (20-7) and William Jewell (18-7) have locked up the top 2 spots, leaving MNU (14-11), Baker (11-14), and Graceland (12-14) alive for the 3rd spot.
Scenarios:
Baker needs to beat the Pioneers in the final 3 games of the series AND needs Graceland to lose once to qualify.
Graceland has 2 games remaining vs. William Jewell. If Graceland wins both games AND Baker wins their 3 games, Graceland takes the final playoff spot in the West. All three teams (MNU, BU, & GU) would be 14-14 and Graceland would win the tie-break (based on their record vs. the other playoff teams).
The Pioneers need just 1 victory to eliminate both Baker and Graceland and qualify for the post season.
The Conference Tournament will be played May 5-8 in St. Joseph, Missouri at Phil Welch Stadium.
