Helms Shines on Senior Day

The Pioneers moved one step closer to a post season birth as senior Harrison Helms threw a complete-game shutout vs. Baker on Saturday. The scheduled double header was cut short due to weather and only one game was played, and the Pioneers won 4-0. After the pregame dedication of Dixon Stadium, MNU jumped on top in the bottom of the second inning.  AJ Nunley led off with a double and scored on an error, and Kyle Segrave nailed a 2-run homer to the trees in left, giving the Pioneers a 3-0 lead. Segraves picked up another RBI in the fourth with a run-scoring single, and Helms worked around 6 hits and 5 walks for his 5th victory and 4th shutout. Reigning HAAC Player of the Week Kyle Segraves (2-4, R, HR, 3 RBI) led the offense.

With three games remaining in the regular season, the Pioneers (21-20, 14-11) need just one more victory to secure the final playoff spot in the West. The next double header is Monday at Baker (14-23, 10-14) at 6:00 PM. Today's second game is tentatively re-scheduled for Wednesday at a time to be determined.
