The Pioneers played the top of NAIA Division 2 and came away with a 75-67 victory over previously undefeated Cardinal Stritch on Tuesday. Playing again without starting guards
Nick Syrie and
Rustin Dowd, the Pioneers jumped out to a 10-4 lead. The Wolves closed the gap, but the Pioneers closed the first half on a 13-5 run to take a 12-point lead into the locker room.
The beginning of the second half was all Stritch. The Wolves went on an 18-6 run in the opening 5 minutes to tie the game at 49. MNU weathered the storm and the game remained close for the next few minutes. Then the Pioneers went on a 15-3 run over 6 minutes to open a double digit lead as
Justin Collard took over. He scored 10 of his 12 points during the deciding run and the Wolves never got closer than 8.
Conner Langrehr was 7-12 from the field for a game-high 19 points.
Jacob French had 14 points and 2 blocks.
Luke Thomas had 14 points and 7 rebounds off the bench. And
Justin Collard had 12 points and 3 steals.
The Pioneers are 11-3. The next game is Saturday the 29th at Rogers State (11-2) at 4:00. Then-#5 RSU defeated MNU 8-86 at home in November.
