OLATHE, Kan. – MNU erased a double-digit first-half deficit and surged ahead late, but William Woods made just enough plays down the stretch to escape with an 80-78 win on Wednesday.
After trailing 47-37 just after halftime, the Pioneers battled back. A 12-2 run tied the game, and the teams battled close for the next 10 minutes. The Owls took control with an 11-1 run to take a 10-point lead with 2:30 remaining, but MNU had one more run left. A few buckets and key missed free throws saw MNU down 1 with 8 seconds left. But the Pioneers couldn't find the final points tie it, and William Woods escaped with a 2-point win.
Malachi Bryant led the way with 16 points, 4 assists and 4 steals. Landon Wagler added 13 points, while Caden Kaberline recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
