#11 and 4-time defending national champion Fresno Pacific swept the Pioneers in the second day of Pool Play at the NAIA National Tournament on Wednesday. The scores were 12-25, 22-25, & 23-25. The first set was all Fresno as they dominated all aspects of the game and won easily. The Pioneers showed plenty of fight, however, and competed deep into the second set before falling by 3. The third set was a back-and-forth battle which the Pioneers led at several points, but a late run by Sunbirds closed out the match and eliminated the Pioneers from a chance to move on.
Molly Brewster,
Linjun Ji, and
Anna Nostrant all recorded 7 kills. Brewster included 2 aces and 6 digs.
Melissa Anaya (14) and
Kimmie Kreeger (12) handled the assists.
Laura Hamblin recorded 10 digs. And
Megan Hayes added 5 blocks.
The Pioneers are 29-9. The final match of the season is Thursday vs. #15 Missouri Baptist (36-6) at 8:00.
