Softball's Winning Streak Reaches 20

The Pioneers closed the regular season with a non-conference sweep of Bethany College on Monday. In game one, MNU took the lead in the second inning when Ashley Mayhle's single drove home Jennifer Costa, who had singled and stolen second. The game was blown open in the sixth when Costa led off with her 15th homer, and Laura Fields brought home two more with a pinch hit single to give the Pioneers a 5-0 lead. Costa allowed 1 run on 4 hits with 12 strikeouts for her 18th victory. And Emily True (2-3, 2B, RBI), Jennifer Costa (2-3, 2 R, HR, RBI, SB), Ashley Mayhle (3-3, R, RBI), and Laura Fields (1-1, 2 RBI) led the offense.

In the second inning of game two, Taylor Ryal's 12th homer of the season was all the run support Penny Eastman needed. Jennifer Costa added a solo shot in the fourth, and the Pioneers added an unearned run in the sixth to take a 3-0 lead, and Eastman allowed just one infield hit and no runs for her 16th victory. Jennifer Costa (2-2, 2 R, HR, RBI, BB) and Taylor Ryal (3-3, R, HR, RBI) had 5 of MNU's 7 hits.

The Pioneers are 39-5 (17-3). The next game is Round 1 of the Conference Tournament - a double header on Friday the 30th at 6:00 PM vs. an opponent to be determined.
