The Pioneers split a double header with Evangel on Monday. In game one, three unearned runs in the top of the second inning proved too much for the Pioneers to overcome. A walk followed by a hit batsman put runners on base with one out. Three errors followed as Evangel built a 3-0 lead without the benefit of a hit. Another unearned run scored in the fifth, and the Pioneers trailed by four as they headed to the seventh. The Pioneers rallied for a run but couldn't get closer, and Evangel took game one.
In game two, Jennifer Costa allowed no runs on just 3 hits and 3 walks as the Pioneers won 1-0. MNU scored in the first inning when Brianna Payne led off with a double and was sacrificed to third. After a walk to Ashley Salter, Costa hit a sacrifice fly to score Payne, and that would be all the Pioneers needed. Costa is now 9-2, and Brianna Payne (3-3, R, 2B, 2 SB) had 3 of MNU's 4 hits.
The Pioneers move to 20-5 (3-3 HAAC) on the season.
