Pioneers Earn Late Draw at OKWU

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – MNU remained unbeaten with a 1-1 draw at Oklahoma Wesleyan on Wednesday. The Pioneers trailed for most of the match before Raquel Fernandez scored in the 85th minute to salvage the tie.

MNU generated the better of the chances in the opening half, putting three of its four shots on goal and earning three corner kicks. Tindra Jarl forced a save in the 29th minute, and Fernandez and Luna Etienne each put attempts on frame during a strong stretch late in the half.

Oklahoma Wesleyan broke through just before halftime. The Eagles scored on a long free kick at 42:09 to send MNU into the break trailing 1-0.

The Pioneers increased the pressure in the second half. Jarl forced another save in the 68th minute before Maria Stumpf hit the crossbar in the 73rd. Stumpf followed with another attempt that required a save, and Emily Rawlins put a shot on goal four minutes later as MNU continued to search for the equalizer.

The breakthrough finally came at 84:28. After Jarl had another shot saved just over two minutes earlier, she set up Fernandez for the equalizer to make it 1-1. The goal was Fernandez's first of the season.

The Pioneers finished with a 12-8 advantage in shots, an 8-5 edge in shots on goal and a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Fernandez led MNU with three shots, two on goal and the tying score. Jarl put all three of her attempts on frame and recorded the assist. Stumpf added two shots, including one on goal, while Rawlins and Etienne each put an attempt on frame. Fiona Popetschnig made three saves in goal for the Pioneers.

Turning Point
With MNU still trailing 1-0 and less than six minutes remaining, Tindra Jarl found Raquel Fernandez for the equalizer at 84:28. The Pioneers continued to press for a winner over the final minutes, but Fernandez's goal ultimately secured the 1-1 draw and kept MNU unbeaten through four matches.
