OLATHE, Kan. – MNU controlled much of the opening half but was unable to find the net, and a second-half goal proved to be the difference in a 1-0 loss to Clarke on Saturday at Pioneer Field.

The Pioneers generated the first three shots on goal of the match. Tindra Jarl forced a save in the eighth minute before Maddie Lalman put consecutive attempts on frame in the 13th. MNU continued to create opportunities throughout the half, with Maria Stumpf having a shot blocked and Laura Ginguene and Quinncy Schiessler narrowly missing on headers.

MNU entered halftime with a 7-1 advantage in shots and had put three attempts on goal while holding Clarke without a shot on frame.

The match changed early in the second half. Clarke generated four shots in the opening 10 minutes, forcing Fiona Popetschnig to make saves in the 54th and 55th minutes before breaking through at 55:01 for a 1-0 lead.

MNU looked for the equalizer over the final 35 minutes. Luna Etienne sent an attempt wide in the 59th minute, and Jarl had a shot blocked in the 75th. Less than a minute later, Lilja Lidstrom put a shot on goal, but it was saved. That proved to be MNU's final shot of the match.

The teams finished even with 10 shots and five corner kicks apiece. MNU put four attempts on goal, while Clarke had five. Popetschnig made four saves, all in the second half.
