CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – #2 MNU came out firing but saw two leads slip away in a 4-3 road loss at Mount Mercy on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers scored twice in the second half to erase a halftime deficit, but the Mustangs answered with two late goals to hand MNU its first conference setback of the season. MNU had allowed just 2 goals all season, but Mt. Mercy's high-powered attacked managed to score 3 times.
Antonio Mugica led the attack with two goals and an assist, while Jaxon Slaven found the net in the 75th minute to give MNU a short-lived 3-2 lead. However, Mount Mercy equalized less than a minute later, and capitalized on an own goal in the 86th minute to steal the victory.
Turning Point
After Slaven's strike put MNU in front 3-2, Mount Mercy responded immediately to level the match. An unfortunate Pioneer own goal in the 86th minute sealed the result.
