OLATHE, Kan. – MNU almost made a miracle comeback in the first game, but ultimately fell short and got swept on Friday. In Game 1, the Mustangs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 1st, but MNU fought back with an Emma Jones RBI triple in the 2nd. A Mt. Mercy 2-run homer in the 3rd made it 4-1, and 3 unearned runs in the 6th seemingly put the game out of reach. But the Pioneers weren't done. A single and 2 errors brought home a run with 1 out, and Kelly Stoakes drove home 2 with a double. After a Maddie Brooks single, Abby Schulte drove home 2 more to make it 7-6. Alli VanLanker tied the game with an RBI single, and the game went into extras.

In the top of the 9th, a solo homer put the Mustangs in front, and MNU was retired in order in the bottom to finish the game.
