Mandy Brown dominated from the circle in Game 1, and
Kelly Stoakes dominated from the plate in Game 2 as MNU swept Graceland on Friday. In
Game 1, the Pioneers got on the board in the 3rd when
Abby Schulte's RBI double was followed by an
Alli VanLanker RBI single. MNU added 3 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th, and it was more than enough for
Mandy Brown. She allowed 1 hit and struck out 13 in a complete game shutout.
Game 1 Turning Point
MNU's 2-run 3rd was plenty..
Game 1 Individual Leaders
Mandy Brown struck out 13 in a complete game 1-hit shutout. And
Kelly Stoakes (3-4, 2 R, 2 2B, RBI),
Abby Schulte (2-4, 2 R, 2B, 2 RBI),
Alli VanLanker (2-3, R, RBI), and
Dakoda Hobbs (1-2, 2B, 2 RBI, Sac) led the offense.
In
Game 2, MNU needed late heroics to complete the sweep.
Abby Schulte's squeeze bunt pushed across the game's first run in the 3rd, and the Pioneers held a 1-0 lead into the top of the 6th. With 2 outs and runners on second and third, Graceland managed a grounder through the infield to take a 2-1 lead. With 2 outs and nobody on in the 7th,
Danica Hobbs singled with 2 strikes to keep the game alive.
Kelly Stoakes followed with a double to the fence, and the game was tied at 2. In the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs, Stoakes again found the fence, this time scoring
Robin Todd from first, and MNU won 3-2 to complete the sweep.
Game 2 Turning Point
Kelly Stoakes' 7th and 9th inning doubles turned the game around.
Game 2 Individual Leaders
Grace Berlage struck out 7 in 5.2 solid innings.
Mandy Brown struck out 4 in 3.1 innings of relief for the win. And
Danica Hobbs (2-5, R) and
Kelly Stoakes (4-5, 2 2B, 2 RBI) had multi-hit games.
