SIOUX CITY, Iowa – MNU split a doubleheader against Briar Cliff on Tuesday, dropping a close 5-4 contest in Game 1 before dominating in Game 2 with an 8-1 victory.
In Game 1, the Pioneers jumped out to an early lead with a four-run first inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Abby Schulte and a two-run triple by Brie Manwarren. However, Briar Cliff chipped away at the lead, scoring two in the second and tying the game with two more in the sixth. In the bottom of the seventh, a hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded forced in the winning run for Briar Cliff, handing MNU the tough loss.

In Game 2, MNU responded in a big way. After falling behind 1-0 in the first, the Pioneers took control, tying the game in the second and adding two runs in the third. A five-run fifth inning broke the game open, with Abby Schulte delivering a two-run single and Brie Manwarren reaching on an error that brought in two more runs. Grace Berlage was outstanding in the circle, tossing a complete-game four-hitter while allowing just one run.
