WICHITA, Kan. – MNU lost a pair a gut-wrenching games in Wichita on Saturday, falling to Midland 5-4 and dropping a nine-inning battle against Sterling 7-6. In
Game 1 vs. Midland, MNU struck first with 2 runs in the opening inning, and took a 4-1 lead in the 3rd. Midland responded with 2 in the 3rd and another in the 5th to tie it, and held off MNU in a bases loaded no out situation in the top of the 7th. In the bottom of the 7th, Midland loaded the bases with no outs, and a sacrifice fly ended the game.

Midland's run in the 7th was the difference.
Game 1 Individual Leaders
Mandy Brown struck out 3 in 3.1 innings of relief. And
Kelly Stoakes (3-4, R, 2 2B, RBI) and
Alli VanLanker (2-3, R, 2B, RBI) had multi-hit games.
In
Game 2 vs. Sterling, both teams scored 1 in the 1st, and Sterling took a 3-1 lead with 2 in the 5th. In the bottom of the 5th, a
Kelly Stoakes 3-run homer put the Pioneers up 4-3, but Sterling scored 2 in the top of the 7th to re-take the lead. With 2 outs in the bottom of the 7th,
Alli VanLanker tied it with a homer, and the game went into extra innings. Both teams scored 1 in the 8th, and Sterling took the lead with a run in the top of the 9th. In the bottom of the 9th, MNU had the winning run in scoring position, but 2 groundouts ended the game.
Game 2 Turning Point
Sterling's go-ahead run in the ninth secured the win in extra innings.
Game 2 Individual Leaders
Grace Berlage allowed 0 earned runs in 4.0 innings. And
Kelly Stoakes (2-5, R, HR, 3 RBI),
Abby Schulte (2-4, R, BB),
Alli VanLanker (1-4, R, HR, RBI, HBP), and
