NEVADA, Mo. – MNU fell in both games of a doubleheader at Cottey College on Thursday, dropping the first game 11-6 and coming up short in a 13-9 slugfest in the second game.
In Game 1, the Pioneers found themselves in an early hole after Cottey plated three runs in the first and added to their lead with runs in the second and third innings. MNU's offense came alive in the middle innings, sparked by a two-run homer from Alli VanLanker in the fifth, followed by a solo shot from Andi Clements to pull within one. However, Cottey responded with a three-run homer in the bottom of the inning and tacked on two more in the sixth to put the game out of reach.

Cottey's three-run homer in the fifth extended the lead and halted MNU's momentum.
Game 1 Individual Leaders
Brie Manwarren (2-4, R), Abby Schulte (3-4, R, RBI), Alli VanLanker (2-4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI), and Andi Clements (1-4, R, HR, RBI) had big games at the plate.
In Game 2, the Pioneers fell behind early as Cottey erupted for six runs in the first inning and six more in the third. MNU battled back in the fourth, scoring five runs, highlighted by a two-run double from Kelly Stoakes and a two-run single by Dakoda Hobbs. A solo homer by Alli VanLanker in the sixth and two more Pioneer runs in the seventh made it a four-run game, but the comeback fell short.

Cottey's six-run first inning put MNU in a tough position from the start.

Mandy Brown tossed 3.1 relief innings with no earned runs. And Alli VanLanker (2-4, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI), Kelly Stoakes (1-5, R, 2B, 2 RBI), Dakoda Hobbs (3-4, R, 2 RBI, HBP), Molly Nicas (1-2, R, RBI, BB), Robin Todd (2-2, R, 2B), and Morgan Hamilton (3-4, 2 R) led the offense.
