OLATHE, Kan. – #2 MNU erupted for five goals Saturday in a commanding 5-1 victory over Missouri Baptist, closing the regular season with one of its best offensive outings of the year.
Thomas Giraudo set the tone just 85 seconds in, converting a feed from Gil Brown for the early lead. Jeremie Pelade made it 2-0 in the 11th minute off an Antonio Mugica assist, and although MBU pulled one back on a penalty in the 61st, MNU stormed away with three more goals. Josh Hodgson's strike in the 67th minute restored a two-goal cushion, Pelade added his second of the day in the 84th, and Juan Ortega capped the scoring three minutes later.
The Pioneers outshot the Spartans 22-7 and earned 15 corner kicks, while goalkeeper Tobias Stirl needed only one save. Mugica tallied two assists and was a constant threat on set pieces.
Turning Point
Hodgson's goal in the 67th minute ended any MBU momentum and ignited a late scoring surge for the Pioneers.
