OLATHE, Kan. – MNU opened its season with an emphatic 109–84 victory over Mission on Thursday night at the Cook Center. The Pioneers used a dominant offensive performance—shooting over 51% from the field and nearly 43% from beyond the arc—to seize control with a blistering second half.
MNU's balanced attack featured six players in double figures, led by Malachi Bryant, who poured in 23 points, added three assists, and notched four steals. Landon Wagler added 19 points and 8 rebounds, while Caden Kaberline turned in a strong all-around effort with 14 points, 8 boards, and a career-high 7 assists. Elliot Mogren and Uriah Boutte each delivered key second-half baskets off the bench, finishing with 15 and 13 points, respectively.
After a competitive opening 10 minutes, MNU began to stretch the lead behind sharp perimeter shooting and pressure defense. Wagler hit four threes, and Bryant's energy in transition fueled a 14–4 spurt to close the first half. The Pioneers carried that momentum into the second period, shooting 55.6% after intermission and turning 21 Mission turnovers into 24 points.
Turning Point
A 10–0 burst early in the second half—sparked by a three from Garrett Redwine and back-to-back baskets by Wagler and Kaberline—pushed MNU's lead to double digits for good.
