OLATHE, Kan. - The Pioneers swept Missouri Valley in straight sets on Tuesday night, delivering a dominant performance in front of the home crowd. MNU took Set 1 by a score of 25-21, finding momentum behind key kills and a balanced offensive effort. The Pioneers held off a late rally from Missouri Valley in Set 2 to secure a 25-23 win, and then powered through the final set 25-17 to complete the sweep.
MNU used an efficient attack, hitting .224 as a team, with 46 kills on 116 total attempts. Avery Lowe and Isabella Munari led the charge with 10 kills each, while Katrina Davis controlled the offense with 35 assists. The Pioneers' defense also stepped up, recording 62 total digs to hold Missouri Valley to a .143 hitting percentage.
Turning Point
The turning point came late in the second set. Missouri Valley was up 20-16 and on the verge of evening up the match, but the Pioneers dug deep. Behind a string of kills from Avery Lowe and Isabella Munari, MNU went on a 9-3 run to steal the set 25-23 for a 2-0 lead.
