Pioneers Split at Grand View

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Pioneers dropped Game 1 but took Game 2 in extra nnings in a double header split at Grand View on Tuesday. In Game 1, MNU got on the board in the 1st on a Kelly Stoakes RBI single, but the Vikings rallied for 5 runs over the next 3 innings and held on to win 5-2.

Game 1 Turning Point
Grand View's run in the bottom of the 3rd put them up for good.

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Graci Buckly struck out 2 in 2 scoreless innings of relief. And Cordelia Hanger (1-3, R, BB, SB) and Kelly Stoakes (1-3, RBI, BB) reached base twice.

In Game 2, MNU jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 2 innings, but Grand View started to come back with a run in the 5th. In the bottom of the 7th, Grand View loaded the bases with 1 out. A single tied the game, but the MNU escaped further damage and the game moved into the 8th. Maddison Soman led off with a walk and Cordelia Hanger was hit by a pitch. Dez Duncan bunted them into scoring position, and Nyah Brown knocked them in with a 2-run single for a 5-3 lead. The Vikings couldn't score in the bottom of the 8th, and MNU salvaged a split.

Nyah Brown's 2-run single in the 8th was the difference.

Game 2 Individual Leaders
Mykala Johnico got the win with 1.2 innings of relief. And Cordelia Hanger (3-4, 2 R, 2B, 2 RBI, SB, HBP), Nyah Brown (2-5, 2 RBI), Emma Jones (1-1, R, 2 BB, HBP), Robin Todd (2-4, R, 2B), and Maddison Soman (1-2, R, BB, 2 SB, Sac) led the offense.
