OSKALOOSA, Iowa - The Pioneers split a 4-game series at William Penn over the weekend. In
Game 1, MNU scored in each of the first 4 innings to build an 11-0 lead. Starter
Zach Trevino shut out the Statesmen until the 6th, and MNU won 12-1.

MNU's 4-run 2nd inning was enough.

Zach Trevino struck out 5 in a complete game victory. And
Brycen Sherwood (2-4, 4 R, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, BB, 3 SB),

In
Game 2,
Joshua Martinez' first collegiate homer put MNU up 2-0 in the top of the 2nd, but WPU rallied in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th to run away with it. The Pioneers managed just 4 hits, and Penn won 12-2.

Penn's 4-run bottom of the 2nd turned the game around.

In
Game 3,
Javier Melendez hit a 3-run homer and
Noah Castillo followed with a solo shot to give MNU a 4-0 lead before an out was recorded. WPU answered with 2 in the bottom of the inning, and a bases loaded walk in the 4th made it 4-3. In the bottom of the 5th, a 2-run homer gave the Statesmen a 5-4 lead, but MNU rallied in the 6th. With 1 out, an error and a walk put 2 runners on base, and
Joey Calamaio doubled home the tying run. With 2 outs,
Drew Woodley put MNU ahead with a 2-run double, and
Brycen Sherwood followed with a 2-run homer for a 4-run lead. In the bottom of the 6th, a 2-run homer cut the deficit in half, and a 2-out 2-run error tied the game. In the top of the 7th,
Noah Castillo and
Dionathan Cornet led off with singles, and back-to-back groundouts scored the go-ahead run.
Kristian Hurtado finished out the 6th and 7th innings, and MNU held on to win 10-9.

John Barry struck out 7 in 4 innings of a no-decision.
Kristian Hurtado struck out 3 in 1.1 innings for the win in relief. And
