Pioneers Get Walked Off in Extras by Wayland

The Basics
Score: MNU 4 - Wayland Baptist 5
Records: MNU (1-3) - WBU (7-2)
Location: Sterlington, La.

STERLINGTON, La. - MNU led late but fell in extras to Wayland Baptist at the Cajun Collision in Sterlington, Louisiana on Thursday. Scheduled for 7 innings, Wayland got on the board with a run in the first, but MNU tied it with a Dionathan Cornet solo homer to lead off the 4th. In the top of the 5th, MNU rallied when Sean Maple singled to lead off and Drew Woodley doubled him to 3rd one out later. After a Brycen Sherwood sac fly put MNU up 2-1, Cornet walked to put runners on the corners. A double steal brought home another run, and a popup double from AJ McMahon made it 4-1. In the bottom of the 6th, a walk and 2 errors led to 2 unearned runs, but MNU held a 4-3 lead in the 7th. A walk and a single quickly put MNU on the ropes, and a sacrifice fly tied the game. Neither team scored in the 8th. And after 2 strikeouts opened the bottom of the 9th, a walk kept the inning alive. A rocket deep to left field resulted in a close play at the plate, and the runner slid in safely for the Wayland victory.

Turning Point
The WBU 2-out RBI in the 9th was the game-winner.
