OLATHE, Kan. – Anthony Brown reached 2,000 career points in a 76-72 victory over Mt. Mercy on Saturday. The 5th year senior has scored over 500 points every season except his covid-shortened sophomore campaign, and has a career average of 16.6 points per game.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 9-0 lead, but Mt. Mercy went on a 17-7 run to take a 1-point lead. MNU pushed the lead back to 13 with under 2 minutes left in the half, but the Mustangs scored the last 5 points to trim the lead to 8 at the break. Mt. Mercy regained the lead with 13 minutes left, and the game was tight into the final minute.
Mekhi Elmore broke a tie with a driving layup with 44 seconds left, and Mercy missed 2 free throws on the other end.
Ed Wright was fouled with 7 seconds left, and drilled 2 free throws to ice the game.
