Pioneers Fall in Overtime

MARSHALL, Mo. – MNU dropped the Heart opener in overtime at Missouri Valley on Wednesday. The Pioneers won the 1st quarter 16-13, but the Vikings held MNU to 11 points in the 2nd to take a 5-point lead to the locker room. The Pioneers exploded for 28 points in the 3rd quarter to take a 4-point lead, but Valley closed the gap and took a 2-point lead with under a minute to play. Jordynn Gonzalez buried a 3-pointer to give MNU the lead, but a Valley free throw sent the game to overtime. MNU scored the first 4 points of the extra period, but the Vikings went on a 9-0 run to take a multi-possession lead. The Pioneers couldn't close the gap in the final minutes, and Valley came away with the win.
