Pioneers Fall Late in Arizona

GLENDALE, Ariz. - A 6-run top of the 8th doomed the Pioneers in an 8-7 loss to Embry-Riddle on Friday. The game was tight through 5 innings, as ERAU held a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the 6th, MNU rallied to take the lead. AJ McMahon led off with a double, and a walk and hit batsman loaded the bases. Sean Maple gave the Pioneers a 3-2 lead with a 2-run single, and a 2-out 3-run double from Dionathan Cornet put MNU up 6-2. Another run in the 7th made it 7-2, but the Eagles stormed back in the top of the 8th. A single, HBP, 3 walks, and 2 wild pitches brought home 3 runs. And a 2-out 2-run error tied the game at 7. An RBI double gave ERAU the lead, and MNU was thwarted with runners in scoring position in the 8th and 9th to lose by 1.

Individual Leaders
Zach Trevino struck out 4 in 5.1 innings in a no-decision. Logan Burbach struck out 1 in a perfect 9th. And Drew Woodley (2-5, R, 3 SB), Dionathan Cornet (1-4, 2B, 3 RBI, BB), AJ McMahon (2-4, 2 R, 2B), Javier Melendez (2-4, R, 2B, RBI, BB), and Sean Maple (1-4, R, 2 RBI, SB) led the offense.
