Pioneers Storm Back to Beat Park

OLATHE, Kan. - MNU overcame an 11-point second half deficit to beat Park 68-62 on Wednesday. The Pioneers and Pirates were evenly matched to start the game, but a Jake Alexander three-pointer broke the tie four minutes into the game. Following the three-pointer from Alexander, a basket from Caleb Jones-McCrary and a three-pointer from Anthony Brown gave the Pioneers an 8-point lead. Following a timeout, the Pirates went on a 8-3 run to close the Pioneer lead to 3 with 11 minutes remaining in the first half. After the media timeout, another Jake Alexander three-pointer and a slam from Caleb Jones-McCrary extended the Pioneer lead to 6. A 7-1 run from Park tied the game at 23, but an Ed Wright three-pointer stopped the bleeding. A third Alexander three-pointer and basketball from Ed Wright and Mekhi Elmore would extend the Pioneer lead back to 33-25 with 2:14 remaining in the half. The Pirates would score 5 unanswered to end the half, making the score 33-31 Pioneers at the break.
 
The Park run continued in the second half, as the Pirates used a 25-6 run to build at 11-point lead with 12:27 remaining. An Ed Wright 3 started the comeback, and back-to-back three-pointers from Brook Langrehr and Wright cut the Pirate lead to 4 at the media timeout. After the timeout, an Ed Wright three-point play cut the Park lead to 1. A fourth Jake Alexander three-pointer gave the Pioneers a 62-60 lead with 3 and a half minutes remaining. A bucket from Park's leading scorer tied the game at 62, but the Pirates didn't score again. Back-to-back baskets from Caleb Jones-McCrary gave the Pioneers a 4 point lead with 1:42 remaining, and free throws from Anthony Brown sealed the game.
