Pioneers Earn Late Tie at #1 CMU

The Basics

Record: MNU (3-1-2, 0-0-1), CMU (3-0-1, 0-0-1)
Location: Davis Field | Fayette, Mo.

FAYETTE, Mo. - Rick Hovinga scored with under a minute remaining to earn a draw at #1 Central Methodist on Wednesday. MNU got on the board first when Elyes Elouze was fouled in the box, and Rick Hovinga buried the PK for a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute. Just over 2 minutes later, the Eagles tied the game with a header, and the teams went into halftime deadlocked. In the 74th minute, CMU found the back of the net after a scrum in the box, and MNU fought desperately to equalize. With just 35 seconds left, MNU had a throw-in from the corner. The ball bounced off the head of a defender and to the foot of Mikkel Braz. Braz bounced the ball towards Hovinga, who volleyed it past the keeper for the tie.

"I'm super proud of the team's performance tonight," said head coach Kevin Wardlaw. "And more importantly, their resilience. CMU is one of the hardest places to play, and to earn a result there is tough to do."

Turning Point
Hovinga's goal in the final minute turned a loss into a tie.

Individual Leaders
Rick Hovinga scored both goals. Mikkel Braz recorded an assist. And Enzo Carvalho had 2 saves.
