OLATHE, Kan. - The Pioneers took both games on Friday and split on Saturday to take 3 of 4 from Missouri Valley over the weekend. In Game 1, the Vikings jumped on top with 2 runs in the top of the 1st, but back-to-back walks to open the bottom of the inning scored, and MNU established a pattern of comebacks it would employ 3 more times. In the top of the 4th, Valley rallied for 3 runs to take a 5-2 lead. But the Pioneers responded with 3 in the bottom to tie it. Valley took the lead once again in the 5th, but a Josh Torrance solo shot tied it again. In the top of the 6th, the Vikings rallied for 2 runs to put MNU in another hole. In the bottom of the 6th, Dionathan Cornett, Drew Woodley, and Brycen Sherwood hit 3 doubles in a row to tie the game. Finally breaking the pattern of matching Valley's run total, Randy Fernandez singled home Sherwood to give MNU the lead. Nathan Torres hit two batters in the top of the 7th, but stranded both in scoring position for his 9th save and a 9-8 victory.

Game 1 Turning Point
Randy Fernandez's go-ahead single in the 6th was the game winner.

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Zach Trevino struck out 7 in a no-decision. Logan Burbach pitched 2 innings of 1-hit relief for the win. Nathan Torres struck out 2 in the 7th for his 9th save. In the bottom of the 5th, MNU recorded 7 straight hits for 5 runs to open the frame, and Dionathan Cornett capped the scoring with a 3-run homer to complete a 9-run inning.
