OLATHE, Kan. - Head Coach Ryan Thompson collected his 400th career victory and Joshuan Sandoval broke the career home run record as MNU swept a 4-game series from Evangel over the weekend.
In Game 1, MNU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st with a 2-out 2-run double from Brycen Sherwood. Evangel answered with a 2-run homer in the 2nd, and another 2-run homer in the 4th put the Crusaders up 4-2. Austin Healy's 2-run single in the bottom of the 4th tied the game, but another Evangel homer made it 5-4. In the bottom of the 5th, MNU sent 14 men to the plate, collected 11 hits, and scored 10 runs - capped by a Sherwood 2-run homer - to turn the game around. Adam Rellihan hit a 2-run homer in the 6th, and Evangel hit a couple of their own in the 7th to account for the 16-11 final.

Game 1 Turning Point
MNU's 10-run 5th inning turned the game around.

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Brady Boyd struck out 4 in 3 innings of relief for the win. And Adam Rellihan (2-4, 3 R, HR, 3 RBI, BB), Ryan Leo (3-4, 3 R, RBI, SB, HBP), Brycen Sherwood (3-3, 3 R, 2B, HR, 4 RBI, BB), Randy Fernandez (3-4, 2 R, RBI), and Austin Healy (2-3, 2 R, 2B, 3 RBI, SB, HBP), and Josh Compton (1-3, 2 RBI) led the offense.

In Game 2, starter Jhon Vargas dominated while the offense built a comfortable lead, and the Pioneers blew it open late for an 18-0 victory.

Game 2 Turning Point
Adam Rellihan's 2-run single in the bottom of the 2nd was all Vargas needed.

Game 2 Individual Leaders

Game 3 was a pitcher's duel into the 4th inning, but the Pioneers blew it open in the bottom of the 4th and won big again. For the first 3 innings, MNU only brought 10 men to the plate and saw little solid contact. With 1 out in the 4th, Joshuan Sandoval doubled and Daunte Freeman followed with a long home run to give MNU a 2-0 lead. The Pioneers kept the inning alive thanks to a couple of Evangel errors, and Austin Healy launched a 2-run homer to cap a 7-run inning. The Crusaders managed a solo homer in the top of the 6th, but the Pioneers rallied for their 4th 7-run inning of the series - highlighted by a team cycle (Brycen Sherwood HR, Jacob Jenkins 3b, Austin Healy 1b, and Ryan Leo 2b) including an error, walk, and a hit batsman, to blow the game open and win 14-1.
