OLATHE, Kan. - The Pioneers dropped both ends of a double header vs. #5 Central Methodist on Saturday.
In
Game 1, Central Methodist jumped in front with a 2-out, 2-on, 2-strike 3-run homer in the top of the 2nd. A single run in the top of the 3rd made it 4-0, but MNU chipped away with single runs in the 3rd, 4th, and 6th to trim the deficit to 4-3. CMU iced it with a 2-run homer in the top of the 7th, and MNU fell 6-3.
Game 1 Turning Point
CMU's 3-run homer in the top of the 2nd proved to be the difference.
Game 1 Individual Leaders
Kyle Waller struck out 7 in 6.2 innings in the loss. And
Nick Wagoner (1-1, RBI),
Randy Fernandez (1-2, R, HR, 2 RBI, SF), and
Austin Healy (2-3, R, 2B) led the offense.
In
Game 2, the Pioneers took the lead in the bottom of the 3rd on a
Joshuan Sandoval solo homer. Another run crossed in the 4th for a 2-0 lead, and starter
Jhon Vargas held the Eagles scoreless until the 5th. WIth 2 outs in the top of the 5th, CMU's 2-RBI single tied the game. Neither team scored through regulation, and the game went into extra innings. In the top of the 8th, the Eagles rallied for 4 runs to take control. In the bottom of the 8th,
Daunte Freeman homered and MNU brought the tying run to the plate with no outs. The CMU bullpen held firm, however, and MNU lost 6-3.

CMU's 4-run 8th won the game.
Game 2 Individual Leaders
Jhon Vargas struck out 5 in a 5-inning no decision. And
Joshuan Sandoval (2-4, R, HR, RBI),
Daunte Freeman (1-4, R, HR, RBI), and
Randy Fernandez (3-4, RBI) drove in MNU's 3 runs.
