Pioneers Sweep Ravens

ATCHISON, Kan. - The Pioneers started the Heart schedule with a double header sweep at Benedictine on Friday. In Game 1, MNU got on the board in the first inning when Cordelia Hanger was hit by a pitch and Kaleigh Bayless doubled to open the game. An RBI groundout by Morgan Fouch and a sacrifice fly from Audrey Denges made it 2-0. In the top of the 3rd, a single and 2 walks loaded the bases for Emma Ryan. The junior catcher drilled her first collegiate homer to clear the bases, and MNU led 6-0. Starter Alexis Wilds kept the Ravens at bay through 6 innings. Benedictine scored 1 in the bottom of the 4th, and scored another run in the bottom of the 7th and brought the tying run to the plate, but Sarah Melodia closed it out to secure the 6-2 victory.

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Alexis Wilds struck out 7 in 6 innings for the win. Sarah Melodia got the last 2 outs for the save. Kaleigh Bayless (2-4, 2 R, 2B), Morgan Fouch (1-3, R, RBI, BB), Emma Ryan (2-4, R, HR, 4 RBI), and Hannah Tenberge (2-4) led the offense.

In Game 2, Benedictine scored a run in the bottom of the 1st to take the lead, but MNU tied it in the top of the second and took the lead in the top of the 3rd. Another run in the 5th and 2 more in the 7th extended the lead to 5-1, and starter Sarah Melodia closed out her complete game.

Morgan Fouch's sacrifice fly in the 3rd gave MNU a lead they would not relinquish.

Game 2 Individual Leaders
Sarah Melodia allowed 7 hits in a complete game victory. And Cordelia Hanger (3-4, 2 R, RBI, 2 SB), Kaleigh Bayless (2-4, 2 RBI, SB), and Emma Ryan (2-3) had multi-hit games.
