Pioneers Sweep Dordt

OLATHE, Kan. - The Pioneers swept Dordt to move to 4-0 on Friday. In Game 1, Dordt scored in the top of the 1st inning, but MNU rallied for 4 in the bottom. Janae Ruiz walked and Kaleigh Bayless followed with a single. Morgan Fouch doubled home Ruiz, and Audrey Denges scored 2 more with a single. Shelby Felvus' 2-out RBI single made it 4-1, and freshman pitcher Sarah Melodia shut out Dordt the rest of the way. A Bayless homer made it 5-1 in the 2nd, and the Pioneers scored 2 more in hte 6th for the 7-1 final.

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Sarah Melodia struck out 9 in the complete game victory. And Janae Ruiz (1-3, 2 R, BB), Kaleigh Bayless (3-3, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI, BB, SB), Morgan Fouch (1-3, R, 2B, RBI), and Audrey Denges (1-3, R, 2 RBI) led the offense.

In Game 2, MNU took a 1-0 lead in the 3rd inning on a wild pitch. Dordt tied it with a homer in the top of the 5th, then took a 2-1 lead with a run in the top of the 6th. MNU tied it at 2 in the bottom of the inning on another wild pitch, and Emma Ryan's sacrifice fly put the Pioneers in front. In the top of the 7th, Dordt had runners on 1st and 2nd with 1 out when the hitter grounded to second. An attempted double play was late, but Dordt sent the lead runner home and the Pioneers cut the tying run down at the plate.

Alexis Wilds struck out 11 in 6.1 innings for the win. Allison Denges picked up the save with 0.2 innings of relief. And Kaleigh Bayless (1-3, R), Morgan Fouch (2-3), and Kellie Dumas (1-2, R) had MNU's 4 hits.
