Pioneers Sweep Opener

OLATHE, Kan. - The Pioneers swept their season opening double header from Oklahoma Wesleyan on Saturday. In Game 1, the Eagles rallied for 2 runs with 2 outs in the top of the 1st. Brianna Carter drove in MNU's 1st run with a single in the 2nd, but OKWU scored again in the 3rd to take a 3-1 lead. In the bottom of the 4th with 2 outs and nobody on, Carter singled and Janae Ruiz walked. Kellie Dumas singled home Carter, and Kaleigh Bayless followed with a 3-run homer to give MNU the lead. Morgan Fouch singled and Audrey Denges doubled her home, and MNU led 6-3. The Pioneers scored 1 in the 5th and 2 in the 6th to win 9-3.

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Sarah Melodia pitched 4 innings in her collegiate debut for the win. Allison Denges retired all 6 batters she faced. Rebecca White pitched a scoreless 7th. And Kellie Dumas (2-4, 2 R, RBI), Kaleigh Bayless (2-4, R, HR, 3 RBI), Morgan Fouch (1-3, 2 R, BB), Audrey Denges (1-2, 2B, 2 RBI, BB, SF), Emma Ryan (2-4, RBI), Brianna Carter (3-3, R, RBI, BB, SF), and Janae Ruiz (1-1, R, RBI, BB, SF) led the offense.

In Game 2, MNU rallied for 2 in the bottom of the 1st on RBIs from Morgan Fouch and Audrey Denges. Fouch doubled home Bayless in the 3rd for a 3-1 lead, and Bayless doubled home Ruiz in the 4th for a 4-2 lead. Brianna Carter drove in a run in the 5th, and the Pioneers held on to win 5-3.

Game 2 Turning Point
MNU's 2-run 1st inning gave them a lead they would not relinquish.

Game 2 Individual Leaders
Alexis Wilds struck out 4 in 2.2 innings. Allison Denges picked up the win with 1.1 innings of 1-hit relief. Sarah Melodia earned a save with 3 innings of relief. And Kaleigh Bayless (2-4, 2 R, 2B, RBI), Morgan Fouch (2-4, R, 2 2B, 2 RBI), and Emma Ryan (2-3) had 2 hits apiece.
