Pioneers Win at William Penn

OSKALOOSA, Iowa - MNU trailed 9-0 in the 1st before dominating the next 3 quarters in a 27-16 victory at William Penn on Saturday. The Statesmen scored a touchdown on their opening drive, then use a 16-play 83-yard drive for a field goal to take a 9-0 lead. The Pioneers responded with a quick touchdown drive early in the 2nd quarter, but a pick-6 put WPU up 16-7. The Statesmen would not score again. With 4 minutes left in the first half, Jalen McQueen recovered a fumble and MNU was set up in the red zone. Levi Taylor found Juvante Martin for a 14-yard touchdown and MNU trailed by 2 at halftime.

Taylor and Martin connected again early in the second half with a 49-yard strike to take a 21-16 lead, and the Pioneer defense took over from there.

After forcing 2 punts in the 3rd quarter, David Haney intercepted the first play of the 4th which led to a touchdown and an 11-point lead. Justice Jardine forced a fumble on the next WPU drive, and David Haney picked off another pass to get MNU a turnover on 3 straight drives. The 27-16 score stood to the final horn and MNU moved to 2-1.

Turning Point
Late in the 2nd quarter, MNU recovered a fumble and scored 2 plays later to get within 2.

Individual Leaders
Jamar Moya had 21 carries for 95 yards and a touchdown. Levi Taylor completed 12 passes for 166 yards and 3 touchdowns. Juvante Martin caught 4 balls for 102 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jackson Berck and Ryan Huerta had 14 tackles apiece. And David Haney had 2 interceptions.
