Pioneers Split on Senior Day

OLATHE, Kan. - MNU capped the regular season with a Senior Day split with Mt. Mercy on Saturday. In Game 1, senior Tessa Ward's solo homer gave MNU a 2nd inning lead. The Mustangs tied it in the 3rd, but senior Emily Robinson's 2-out RBI single scored Emma Ryan for a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the inning. In the top of the 4th, MMU rallied for 3 runs on 4 hits, but Robinson came up with a 2-out 2 RBI double to tie it at 4 in the bottom of the inning. The score remained tied into the 7th when Kaleigh Bayless came to the plate with 2 on and 1 out... Game 1 Turning Point

Game 1 Individual Leaders
Emily Robinson struck out 5 in a complete game victory while going 2-3 with a double and 3 RBIs at the plate. And Kaleigh Bayless (2-4, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI), Tessa Ward (1-3, R, HR, RBI), and Emma Ryan (3-3, R, 2 2B) led the offense.

In Game 2, the Mustangs jumped out with 2 in the 1st and MNU answered with 1. The game remained close until MMU blew it open late with 2 runs in the 5th and 3 in the 6th. Senior Cassidy Berry drilled a 3-run homer in the bottom of the 6th to get MNU back into the game, but the Mustangs scored 4 more in the top of the 7th to take an 11-4 lead. Senior Taylor Creason - who hasn't played in over a month with an apparent season-ending injury - thrilled fans with a homer in her final at bat in the 7th, but the Pioneers fell 11-5.

MMU's 2 in the 1st put them ahead for good.
