OLATHE, Kan. - MNU used a 7th-inning comeback in Game 2 to sweep Culver-Stockton for Senior Day on Saturday. In Game 1, the Pioneers jumped out to a 5-0 lead with a huge 1st inning highlighted by a 2-out 2-run double from senior
Sam Parrish and a 2-out 2-run single from
Cristian Rivera. Culver answered back with 6 runs on 6 hits in the top of the 2nd, and the slugfest was on. MNU tied it at 6 with a run in the bottom of the 2nd, then took the lead on senior
Joshua Crispin's 2-run homer in the 3rd. The Wildcats tied it at 8 with 2 in the 5th, but
Joshuan Sandoval crushed a 3-run homer in the bottom of the inning to give the lead back to MNU. Culver stayed close with 2 in the 6th, but
Cristian Rivera's 3-run shot in the bottom of the inning pushed the lead back to 4. The Wildcats made it close with 2 in the 7th, but senior
Joel Lopez finished the 14-12 Game 1 victory.
Game 1 Turning Point
Sandoval's 2-out 3-run homer in the 5th put the Pioneers in front for good.
Game 1 Individual Leaders
Easten Garrett struck out 4 in 3.2 innings of relief for the win.
Joel Lopez pitched 1.2 innings for the save. And

Game 2, MNU again jumped out early with a 2-run bottom of the 1st. Culver tied it with 2 runs in the 3rd, but the Pioneers score 1 in the 3rd and used back-to-back homers in the 4th from
Austin Healy and
Joshua Crispin to push the lead to 4. The Wildcats kept it close with 2 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th to make it 6-5, then used 4 straight hits - including back-to-back triples - in the top of the 7th to take an 8-6 lead. In the bottom of the 7th, seniors
Jeremie Gonzalez and
Chase Robinson hit back-to-back solo homers to tie the game.
After a
Kyle Franklin single put the winning run on first,
Cristian Rivera's drive into the right-center gap scored pinch runner
Garrett Kalm from 1st, and MNU took Game 2 by the score of 9-8.
