Pioneers Survive Wildcats

OLATHE, Kan. - MNU won an ugly one 58-54 over Culver-Stockton on Saturday. Despite building a double digit lead in the first quarter, the Pioneers faltered in the second and led by just 2 at halftime. The offense continued to struggle in the 3rd, but the defense stood firm and the lead was 3 heading to the 4th. Culver scored the first 4 points of the period to take a 1-point lead, but a pair of Kechelle Figeuroa free throws gave the lead back to the Pioneers for good. Alix Wilson and Jovana Jovovic followed with back-to-back 3s, and the lead grew to 7. Culver scored 6 straight to get back within 1, but MNU responded with 5 straight to lead by 6 with 4 minutes left. Free throws down the stretch held off the Wildcats, and MNU escaped with a victory.

Turning Point
MNU's 8-0 run in the 4th quarter gave the Pioneers the lead for good.

Individual Leaders
Jovana Jovovic led the offense with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Kechelle Figueroa  had 12 points, 5 assists, and 5 steals. Alix Wilson had 11 points and 7 rebounds off the bench. And Whitney Moia had 11 rebounds, 6 blocks, and 3 steals.
